Bionic Woman and…Motherhood!

May 13, 2015

imagesIt’s been more than a year since I last posted on this blog. So I am a bit rusty, or at least I feel very new to this now.

In that time, a lot has changed. My hearing journey has reached a whole new level since I became a mother three months ago. Yep, I’m now responsible for the life of a little human forever…

To some part of me, it’s still unbelievable. I knew one day I would be a mum and yes, it’s something I earnestly hoped for but of course the little human’s existence and eventual arrival did come as a surprise haha…

Everyday I wear my CI 24/7, never taking it off even when sleeping because I need to be able to hear her if she is crying or awake in the middle of the night.

So far it’s been going well and what has been surprising is that I do get woken up by her even when I’m fast asleep. That’s surprising because for many years post-CI, I’ve never slept with my CI before so have not been disturbed or woken by sounds in my sleep. Because of this, I was afraid I’d sleep right through the baby’s cries! Thankfully, though that has happened a couple of times, the hubby has been my backup and always there to wake me up if I happen to be so tired that even a klaxon near my ears wouldn’t have woken me up!

At 3 months, the little human is already babbling and making what sounds to me like singing without words, especially when she is interacting with her musical mobile or me. It sounds beautiful!

I have heard her laugh properly for the first time and it was so pure! There truly is nothing like the laughter of a baby.

One of my earnest prayers is that I won’t miss her first word. And hopefully it will be ‘Mama’!
