Beauty is only skin-deep…

December 13, 2011

We spend so much of our time trying to change ourselves because we are unhappy with the way we look, thinking that “if only my nose was straighter…if only my legs weren’t so stumpy…if only my lips were this or that…if only I was more endowed in the chest area…if only I was slimmer and curvy…” If If If…! We are essentially saying to God, “You didn’t make me well; You made a mistake here, here and here. This bit could have been a lot better!” The Bible points out that sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator (Isaiah 45:9).

We live in a culture that compares against the wrong standard. Society is obsessed with looks, but what it fails to tell you is that you will never be satisfied with your looks as long as you continue to compare yourself with society’s standards and with other people. The word “potsherd” is used in Isaiah 45:9 – this word means a broken piece of pottery, essentially worthless. What do you think this means? 2 Corinthians 10:12 clearly defines the culture that we presently live in. When we compare ourselves with others, we may feel pride because we think we are better. But when we measure ourselves against God’s standards, it becomes obvious that we have no basis for pride.

Don’t worry about other people’s accomplishments or the way they look. Instead, continually ask: how does my life measure up to what God wants? How does my life compare to Christ?

Look your best, but accept what you can’t change. God doesn’t make mistakes! Don’t be like those ‘without understanding’. ‘…”people judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1Samuel 16:7 NLT).

Adopt God’s standards, not man’s.

START APPRECIATING YOURSELF – look at yourself in the mirror and ask God to open your eyes to see yourself the way He sees u. Compliment yourself and be thankful for just the way you are! God thinks you are perfect!

Stay beautiful
